After David Heyman read and loved the book, he began the process of securing the film rights. (film) In 1999, Heyday Films successfully acquired the rights from J.K. Rowling, bringing the project to Warner Bros. for financing and distribution. A key part of the deal involved Rowling's stipulation that the principal cast remain British. The company, with Heyman as a consistent producer, went on to produce all eight films in the original Harry Potter series, from `Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone` (2001) to `Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2` (2011).
